No. Kids practice with no name, email, or age — just a grade. Only the parent has an account. That's a deliberate COPPA-conscious design.
Is this an official test?
No. BrightRubric is independent writing practice, not affiliated with any school, exam board, or government agency. It scores essays on a clear analytic writing rubric.
How does scoring work?
Once a parent unlocks scoring, essays are scored by an AI service (Anthropic) on three writing dimensions, with written feedback. Essays are stored so your child can revise them, are sent only to that AI provider to generate the score, and are never sold.
What does it cost?
Browsing writing prompts is free. To unlock writing with AI scoring, feedback, and saved progress, a parent sets up a family account — one plan covers up to 4 children at $9.99/month or $79/year.
Can I set a schedule or use my own prompts?
Yes. From your dashboard you can set an optional weekly writing routine and add it to your own calendar, and you can write your own prompts that appear alongside ours when your child starts a session. Both are optional.
